Sit Up Straight

Have you ever been told to…”sit up straight!” or “stand up straight!” or “walk tall!” or “pull your shoulders back!”


For people seeking to improve their posture instructions like these are in no short supply. It’s a simplistic and seemingly logical approach. In order to accomplish the desired outcome just start DOing the thing you are currently not doing. The person providing these instructions believes that if you simply start doing something it will address why your posture is not ideal.

Problem solved…right?


Unfortunately in most instances, no.


In my previous email I made this statement…

“Posture is not (or should not be) something you largely DO. It is something that mostly just HAPPENS, (in either a beneficial or harmful way)….understanding posture in this way is important because if or when there arises the need or desire to change posture the solutions one might gravitate towards or accept as valid will be heavily dependent upon one’s concept of what it is in the first place.”


For me and my colleagues at Rayku Brands, the maker of Hipsetter, these commands are completely out of touch with what it takes to initiate good posture.


Why, because we begin with a completely different concept, understanding and experience of what posture is and how it works. I have found it to be true that “Posture is something that mostly just HAPPENS,” therefore telling you to DO good posture would be pointless.


Our concept of what posture is and how it works requires that in order for good posture to ever become “something that mostly just HAPPENS” your pelvic core must, as a critical first step, be optimally aligned and actively engaging.


The “impulse” that can make this happen is already inside of us all. Most of us just need to be reconnected to it.
